Best of the Net

The internet can be a wealth of interesting, challenging or inspiring articles.  But sometimes it can be hard to know where to look or what is good to read.  Therefore to help us know how to make the best of the blogs out there we are going to have a new feature on Woman At Charlotte.  Each month we will do a couple of round ups of the best of the best.  If you have any suggestions of good blogs/articles, please do get in touch at  womenatcharlotte@gmail.com but here are a couple to start us off!

When you consider the blessings given to Christians by God, do you consider prayer to be one of them?  David Mathis on desiringgod.org shares how having the gift of God's ear is an incredibly blessing to us as Christians.
"And wonder of wonders, not only does he express himself and bid us hear his voice, but he wants to hear ours. The speaking God not only has spoken, but he also listens — he stops, he stoops, he wants to hear from you. He stands ready to hear your voice.
Christian, you have the ear of God. We call it prayer."
If you struggle with prayer or just need a reminder of the amazing gift we have in prayer, take time to read this article.

On March 1, Tim Challies started a program he is calling 31 Days of Purity.  He starts by offering men a challenge, to commit to thirty-one days of considering what God’s Word says about sexual purity and thirty-one days of praying that God would help us fight sin and pursue holiness in this area.  He issues his challenge to all men—those who are young and those who are old, for those who are married and those who are single, for those who struggle mightily in the area of sexual sin and for those who may barely struggle at all.  So why should we read this as women?  Tim says this, “Women, you can be involved too. I would love it if you would follow along, read what God’s Word says, and then pray for the men in your life: your husbands, your sons, your grandsons. What a blessing it would be to them if you will pray for them in an area in which Satan seems to be winning so many battles. Also, if you are struggling in the area of sexual purity, you’ll easily be able to adapt the devotionals and prayers to your own use.”

A New Name by Emma Scrivener, is a blog I regularly visit.  Emma’s blog is full of posts on stuff like identity, culture, emotions, depression, gender, eating disorders and recovery.  Her posts are also thought provoking, refreshingly honest and full of her thinking through how Jesus gives hope in any and every circumstance. She has also written called “A New Name” which talks about some of her struggles (especially with anorexia) and how Jesus reached her when nothing else could.  Well worth a read as well.
Her recent post The Creepy Intimacy We All Want shared some thoughts on an issue we call face, our desire for intimacy combined with our fear of being hurt.  Also this post on Helping A Depressed Friend has some super tips.  Read it if you are helping someone now.  Or read it to understand for the future.
